Douglas and Dean is led by Nicola Draper who has over 18 years experience in the property market having worked for a local company in Barnstaple for 5 years, then as a rental manager in Ilfracombe for 2 years. In 2006 Nicola lost her mum and it was then that Nicola decided to follow her dream of being her own boss in a job she is so passionate about.
After taking some time off and working for a local builders merchant Nicola set up her own letting agency in 2008. Starting in a small office in Fore Street, Ilfracombe and then in 2013 opening our bigger and brighter offices just up the road where we operate to this day.
Nicola grew up in Combe Martin and comes from a building family, which was run by her Grandfather, Dad and Uncle. Property was always a big part of her growing up and Nicola was always on a building site. Nicola's grandfather has in recent years written a book on his life, this is a very interesting read.
In spring 2015 Nicola gained her level 3 award in the Sale of residential property, which has been a great development for the business and now not only can we do lettings but also property sales. Nicola says that we are different from the bigger companies as we try to be more personal and like to be independent for a reason, to provide the best personal service in the area, to provide a real alternative to all other Estate Agents, to make the process of buying, selling or renting more enjoyable for all involved parties. To maintain a professional and friendly approach to Estate Agency. Most of all to run the business as an effective and efficient team. To be better than the rest and consistently strive to improve our service.
Out of the office Nicola loves spending time with her partner Sam, her son James and step son Thomas. She has a passion for photography, walking, gardening and visiting new places. Nicola also helps out every week with the local scouts and is enjoying her role as assistant Beaver leader for Ilfracombe 1st.

In recent weeks Nicola has gained a distinction in TPO Codes of Practice and Unfair Trading Regulatons V5 and a Pass in Complaints Handling and Reputation Management. She is also currently working on her ongoing training to keep up with the latest legislation and working through her Diploma in Residential Lettings and Management level 4 through online distance learning with the Guild of Letting and Management.
Tracey moved to Ilfracombe 30 years ago from Gloucestershire, where she worked in the Estate Agency business from the age of 16 as a secretary/receptionist for 10 years at the same Estate Agents.
When she moved to Ilfracombe she also worked for a couple of local estate agents, one in Ilfracombe and one in Braunton until she married someone in the forces and got whisked away overseas for 6 years. In this time starting a family.
She has since being back in Ilfracombe worked in various lines of business including the running of her own business along with her husband. She has always, one way or another worked in various lines of business assisting the general public.
I always enjoyed my time working in the Estate Agency business a bit like Nicola and was very grateful when Nicola gave me the position here at Douglas and Dean.
My role here at Douglas and Dean is as a letting/sales negotiator, carrying out various tasks within the office to assist Nicola in the smooth day to day running of the office.
